Merle - Just a note to let you know Bill and I will be watching your progress via the web. We enjoyed visiting with you and Jan a few weeks back and look forward to hearing all the war stories once you return to Georgia. You've got the heart of a lion and are undertaking a challenge most of us wouldn't even consider. We wish you the best. Take care of yourself and we'll see you in a few months. Pam and Bill

You don't know me Merle, I read your story on the wsbradio site today. In 1999 I walked the London marathon and raised $4,000 for the American Diabetes Association, in honor of my grandmother who since passed a couple of years ago. I can relate to your feelings of wanting to make a difference, and I support you wholeheartedly. The world needs more people with hearts and determination like yours. Enjoy every minute of your journey - you will enjoy the memories for many years to come. God Bless, I will be following your progress online.

Merle, The first step is half the journey - congratulations on a successful start to what is already an amazing accomplishment! You are truly an inspiration, and I for one am passing your story around like crazy. Best of luck to you for the rest of the ride, and please be safe. We are praying for you and looking forward to checking out your journal every day! Keep it up and may God be with you, Jan, and Brandy for the entire trip! -Joe Miller and the entire Slide by Slide crew!

Merle, I'm on your route and I'd like to offer to put you up for the night. My brother Ron is one of your classmates, and forwarded your information to me. I admire your guts and would consider it an honor to host y'all, (or all y'all whatever the case may be). Ken 509-826-3726
