My trip was supported by my wife, Jan, driving our used 1999 Dodge conversion van RV which we bought specifically for the trip. She carried spare parts, food, clothing, cleaning supplies, etc. We lived in the (tiny) RV for about three monthns, counting the trip home. Jan was not excited about spending three months in it but ended up enjoying the trip after all was said and done. Jan would have prefered that I didn’t take this trip at all (at least in this manner), but she resigned herself to helping me. She has done a lot of things for me in the 46 years that we have been married.

Also part of the support team was our dog Brandy, a Heinz 57. He was 15 years old at the time of the trip and is smart enough to have trained us very well during those 15 years. We hated making him ride that long but we hated even more the thought of forcing him to stay somewhere else during the waning months of his life. As it turned out he traveled fine for the entire journey and probably enjoyed the trip as much as we did.
